2nd Klang Valley Recess Revo Gathering - Jan 09, 2010
by Joy Lee

“Owe no one anything but love” is a favourite line of Pastor Kenneth Chin, Senior Minister of Acts Church.

The Recess Revolution (RR) movement was started in the spirit of impacting and changing schools by bringing the love of Christ to the schools. RR was first launched in April last year. Barely even a year old, the movement has seen many of our teenagers carrying out different tasks to share God’s love with their teachers and friends.

We gathered our RR Groups together for the second Klang Valley Recess Revo Gathering on 9 Jan 2010 to recapture the spirit of and realign our purpose of RR for the new year. We had 88 young revolutionaries attending the event from schools all over the Klang Valley!

The day kicked off with some of the teens sharing their true stories of how they impacted their schools last year. Jason, a 13 year old from SMK Damansara Jaya, singlehandedly made 200 “Jesus Loves You” cards to be given out to students in his school. He took it a step further by gathering his team to hand out food packets with “Jesus loves you” notes stuck to them.

Claire Mah and her team wrote appreciation notes for their teachers and one went as far as to say that the RR Group would always be there to help the teachers when they are needed. And the teachers in that school have come to recognize the reliability of Christian students!

Over at Sri Andalas, the RR Group went back to school for a week during the year-end break to clean up various locations in the school resulting in the principal promising to give all involved a certificate of appreciation from the school!

In SMK USJ 13, a girl told her teacher that Jesus loves her and the teacher broke down in tears. The teacher was a backslidden Christian, and she rededicated her life to Jesus after that!

Pastor Kenneth reminded the teens that nothing changes lives more than love does, and he encouraged the teens to continue impacting their schools for the better.

To date, we have 57 RR Groups in 30 Schools all over Selangor and KL. But the RR movement has grown beyond the borders of Selangor since its inception. There are RR Groups in 21 schools in Penang and six schools in Ipoh. Four schools in Melaka have also recently committed to start RR.

The movement is indeed going far and wide to reach out to schools around Malaysia as our teens stand out to show off a different spirit than what the world teaches. And we can expect more amazing true stories from them as they impact the lives of those in their schools! Stay tuned for more real-life revolutionary stories!
