CONSECRATE, CROSSOVER & CONQUER
By Pr. Andy Yeoh (13/12/2008)

WHAT IS IT? IN A NUTSHELL…
Recess Revolution is a movement/mobilization of young people who are maximizing “recess time” (“waktu rehat”) in schools to make a statement of what they believe in, and to make an impact by being a positive influence right where they are. It is a coming together of like-minded, “like-spirited” youths to do something* together in their schools with a mission to make the difference and bring about positive change (i.e. revolution)! It is not just about bringing people to Christ, but - even more so - about bringing Christ to people (and into schools)!

Nothing big, just little things to show that God is at work. :) (SMK Damansara Jaya)

Date of Event: Tuesday, Jan 17, 2012

Hello! It’s been awhile since I shared a story here. I’ve been reading through really inspiring stories and I thought of updating you guys and share what has been happening since I last updated. I don’t have any big stories, just little things that have been happening that shows that God is at work. As I was reflecting upon 2011, I realized that 2011 was a year of God’s grace, mercy and forgiveness. 2011 was a year filled with ups and downs especially for the CF in my school. 2 high ranking and extremely supportive Christian teachers were transferred out of school and our CF teacher retired after serving a good number of years in school. Though we're in many ways independent, it was tough for us having our pillars of strength taken away so suddenly. If I were to sum up 2011 in one word, it’d be grace.

1) I’m not too sure whether I’ve shared this before but by the grace of God, the CF society in my school was recognized and categorized as a club that gives back to the school early last year after our active involvement in recess revo over the past few years. Over the years, the school has always been finding faults with CF and looking for every other reason to bring it down. We’ve always only been in the “non-academic club” category and nothing more. Over the past year though, especially after we’ve been recognized and categorized as a club that gives back to the school, the school has been involving us more in things. Praise the Lord! We even had the honour or raising RM1000 to buy flags to decorate the whole school for Merdeka. We were told about it quite late though. The journey of raising RM1000 in such a short period of time wasn’t an easy one, but God is good and He really provided! This was our first step of being officially recognized as a club that gives back to the school not only in the school’s dairy that every student has, but also over assembly when I went up the stage as a representative of CF to hand over the flags to the school. Ever since then, the school started seeing us in a different light, getting us more involved and being less against us. Praise the Lord! :)

2) I updated about my CF’s visit to a Myanmar refugee center to bless the kids awhile back. (http://community.urtherevolution.com/Story/997) It started off by wanting to do something extra special for revo to bless others during Easter. After much discussion and prayer, we decided to pay a visit to the Myanmar refugees in KL. Like what I shared in my last story, it was indeed an amazing experience all together and hence, we decided to make it a continuous thing. Ever since then, we’ve visited the Myanmar refugees another 2 times, one right before SPM trials and another just not too long ago, on the 22nd of December with each visit being more meaningful than the last. Through these visits, we’ve learned so much. Not only did we manage to build & strengthen the bonds within the CF, the little ones in CF stepped up and got themselves involved as well. We also had the wonderful opportunity to get CF-ers from other schools to join us, hence making it an interschool thing- DJCF, DUCF and Taman Sea CF :) We’ll be making our visits more frequent this year (most probably during each school holiday and public holidays that fall on a Thursday) and the years ahead, hoping and praying that we’ll be able to branch out to bless other Myanmar refugees around the KL/PJ area, build and strengthen bonds within our CF and outside of our CF as well as learn more and continue growing in godliness with each visit. It's gonna be a pretty big thing and requires quite a bit of planning and sometimes planning it itself can be a little tough, so we would appreciate if you could keep us in your prayers. Thank you! :)

3) In form 4, I got to know this guy through working in our school's YE club together. We kept stepping on each other's toes in the first two months of form 4, but we became very close friends over the after that. Glad to say we still are :) The sad thing though, is that he's an atheist. A very strong one in fact. He's a debater and a public speaker so needless to say, he's hard headed, very strongly opinionated and extremely stubborn in his ways of thinking. Most of our conversations with one another are quite deep and most of the times, it revolves around us- our dreams, hopes, goals, achievements and things like that. One of the things we always talk about is religion, with him questioning me about my faith and me trying to explain why I believe in Him. In many ways, this has helped me grow deeper in The Word even as I try to find answers to his questions. I thank God for that :) Over the past two years, I've invited him to CF but the only time he came was when I stepped up and stepped down as the vice president of DJCF, only because he knew how much that meant to me. Having "Christians" giving him the wrong perception as well as his mom being pretty against Christianity, I can't say that I'm surprised why he's like that. I've been praying for his salvation along and just when I started to lose hope, God started answering my prayers and making Himself ever so read. First of all, know that he’s not someone who’s allowed to go out much, what more to Christian gatherings and what not.

On the 17th of December, DJCF had a Christmas party . He was thrown a pretty last minute invitation by some of his friends whom he was going to have a sleepover with that night and he came for the party. It was a surprise seeing him there and I'm glad he really enjoyed it (first encounter) :) At the end of the party, he became rather quiet and stuck in his own world of thoughts. When I realized that, I talked to him, asked his opinion on the party and once again, we dived into the whole topic of religion and Christianity. At the end of our conversation, he told me that he IS interested, but he just needed to know more and he needed someone to really convince him on why Christianity is right. That itself was a challenge for me to grow deeper in the word. That night after the Christmas party, I was talking to him online. Our DJCF visit to the Myanmar refugee place was a few days away. Though we already had more than enough people (too many people in fact), I was prompted to ask anyway, if he was interested in joining us, in which I'm glad he responded and agreed on. Him coming for Christmas party (knowing how much he dislikes Christian gatherings) is some sort of miracle itself, what more about him agreeing to join us for our refugee visit (second encounter). Praise the Lord indeed :) He had an equally blessed time at the visit, learning more and even participating in worship (for the first time ever, may I add. Every other time before this, he excuses himself). Praise the Lord! As expected, he came back with even more questions for us to answer which was yet another challenge for us. Things happened in between, I got him to talk to someone waay more experience and knowledgeable about his questions. I've been observing the conversation from the very start till now and that's been going extremely well so far. God is amazing, really. Days passed by and Christmas drew nearer and nearer. I wasn't exactly looking forward to Christmas since I didn't have a church to attend but on the 23rd of December, I was online when Jo-Ann messaged me to ask if I was interested in going for the Life Is Heart production at Acts Church. I told her that I doubt I'll be going since I haven't gotten the tickets, but she assured me that she'll look around for tickets for me for the 11.15am service. I really wasn't expecting to get tickets since I saw all over facebook and twitter than tickets for the 11.15am service was sold out but on the Christmas Eve morning, she dropped me a message saying that she managed to get tickets for the 11.15pm Life is Heart production. She then told me that she had extra tickets and asked if I wanted to bring any friends along, to which I replied that most of my friends had their own church to attend. To be honest, the idea of going alone was really scary for me but I had a strong need to go to church and I told myself that even if I couldn't find someone to go with, I'd still go anyway, after all the trouble Jo-Ann and Ken-Ji had put into looking for tickets for me (thanks guys!). In the evening, as I was spending time alone with God, I felt this prompting for me to invite this atheist friend of mine to the Life is Heart production with me. I ignored it at first, thinking that it's impossible to even get him to come to church, what more on a Sunday for Christmas ; something I knew he was very against. Also, he already got invited to a few other churches for Christmas services and he had every more reason to go there since he has so many other friends there. But despite silly me ignoring the prompting, the voice in my head grew stronger and stronger so I decided to give this atheist friend of mine a call. No harm, right? I wasn't expecting anything positive out of this- if anything, it's to ask who else is going and telling me he doesn't feel like going/ he can't make it. When I called him, I asked him if he was going for the Christmas service in the other church. His reply made my heart sink a little. He said no. I then told myself that there's no point in asking him anyway, since he already rejected several invitations for Christmas services yet the voice in my head grew louder and louder. I asked him if he was interested in joining me at the Life is Heart production at Acts Church and to my surprise and relieve, he said yes almost right away (third miracle!). It took very little convincing for him to agree to come along with me. And surprisingly, His parents who are pretty against Christianity agreed to let him come for the production as well. He enjoyed himself thoroughly at the Life is Heart production finding Pastor Kenneth very interesting. It was his very first Christmas production and Sunday service and he was blessed. I would love to say that he accepted Christ, but he hasn't. I do believe though, that the time will come. God can work in anyone's hearts and bring them to repentance and faith in Christ. So, we must not give up trying to help him to see the truth, no matter how frustrating it is sometimes. As Paul said, someone will sow, someone else may water, but God is ultimately the one who makes it grow. He's still searching and asking. He's talking to someone very knowledgeable at the moment and getting a clearer picture of things. I'm just really thankful that he's slowly but surely being more and more open and showing more and more interest :) I'm really in awe of Him, how He can work in the hearts of so many people (even those extremely stubborn ones) that even those who don't believe in Him wants to get to know Him more. For now, I'll keep praying for His salvation and I'll appreciate if you do too!

Sorry for the long windedness :P To all of you who actually got to the bottom of this, congrats! Do continue shining His light in your schools and sharing your stories to encourage and inspire others, just as how I’ve been inspired and encouraged by the stories I’ve read. God bless! :)

Revo Tuition (SMK Ave Maria Convent, Ipoh)
Uploaded on: Monday, Dec 26, 2011
Date of Event: Tuesday, Aug 02, 2011

In the month of August and September, we gave tuition for Maths and Science to the Form 3 cheerleaders of our school to bless them. This door was opened by God (of course) and the teacher advisor of the cheerleading team whom is also part of revo. We had 4 students and two F4 'teachers'. As the PMR results were out, we were glad to hear that 2 of them got A for both subjects.

It was a great experience reaching out to them in this simple way. All praise and glory be unto God for the wisdom to teach Form 3 work & for the good results.

Courage to stand, Courage to change (SMK Subang Utama (SS18))
Uploaded on: Thursday, Dec 08, 2011
Date of Event: Thursday, Dec 08, 2011

So often we get so used to certain things that it begins a routine, and before you know it, it becomes a habit. Amazing how we've been doing stuff week by week but we never are able to reach what we've achieved.

After every RR activity we've done this year, here is what I've heard.

"that is very nice of you"

"why do you use your time like this, it's exam period..."

"Very dedicated aa :)"

"I've wanted to join CF for so long already"

However. I've also heard the other side of the comments.

"... However, I never joined CF because I'm Chinese speaking, you all are english speaking"

"Hey look, it's the CF group again!!"

"Are you sure I can help? But I'm not part of the group"

"You're never around me... You're always hanging around your CF friends..."

"But I can't join you, whenever I do you guys are only talking among yourselves..."

Do you see the trend here? People WANT to come in. People WANT to know more. People REALISE something is different. And the Want. But how are we helping them furthur?

I've found this trend coming over RR group after RR group. And because not many of us have this oppotunity to hear these 2 different views, we don't realise what's going on.

I enjoy and love doing activities that reach out AND WE HAVE done it!! However that's one half. People notice the kindness and the warmness we have and that we never tire. We fall, yet we stand back up again. And they want to know what is this that fills us, though they don't fully realise it yet.

But. Do realise we have to finish the job.
Guys, I was suddenly moved to post this after not sharing anything for almost a year.

Do realise, that openness to others and a spirit that cares for others can reach out to people further than you know. A spirit that wouldn't judge them no matter how bad they are. Anyway, we've all sinned. We've received God's loving grace. They need God's loving grace just as much.

I want to take this chance I have to urge all of you reading to open your groups to others. Do not get comfortable with one another, allow your group to grow. Trust God. STRETCH!! WELCOME THE HARVEST IN.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him and he'll make your path straight. Proverbs 3:5-6

All in all, change things as God wants you to. Not your will, His.
